The PC machine is active again, working overtime to ensure that with each passing year the christian significance of December 25 is eroded from public consciousness. Only 1 in 5 public schools in the UK will be putting up nativity plays this year.
We are constantly being told to tone down the religious significance of the birth of Christ so as not to "offend" those of opposite religious leanings. Using the term "merry christmas" in the media is probably likely to cost a job or at least a harsh reprimand. This in the same society that fell over itself in the bid to wish Jews a happy hanukah and a happy Eid to muslims just a few weeks ago?
While growing up as a child in Nigeria, christmas was all about the manger, the 3 wise men and the birth of the Saviour. Today's children now associate the "winter solstice" with decorative lights, toys and the white bearded man from the north pole.
Easter was first to be replaced by easter bunnies and mystery eggs, now atheists remind us that christmas was actually a pagan celebration stolen by the church. The irony is that those who claim NOT to believe in God would rather celebrate a day that early pagans reserved to worship the sun "god".
